Witchcraft
Magic has existed in one form or another throughout most ancient and current cultures. The practice of witchcraft is to be able to control and influence another persons mind, body or property against their will. This can be done either for good or bad purpose. Malicious, or Black, magic has been associated as the cause of disease, bad luck, sudden death, loss of fortune and other negative impacts. As a counterbalance White magic is associated as being strictly benevolent and was often called upon to counteract the supposed Black magic that had been cast upon an individual.
There are several magical practices associated with witchcraft. The most well known practice of this type of magic is Spell casting which involves a ritual intended to bring about a specific outcome, either positive or negative to the individual the spell was being cast upon. Another magic practice in this context is Divination. This is the art of seeing into the past, present or future. Necromancy is another form of magic which is defined as the summoning of the spirits of the dead usually to converse and gather information from them.
Varieties of magic can also be classified as contagious magic which involves the use of physical ingredients that have been in contact with the person the magic is to affect. Sympathetic magic involves the use of imagery of the individual such as a photo or a doll created to represent the individual known as a voodoo doll.
